A 10 × 10 ft patio (100 sq ft) takes 495 pavers in the standard 4 × 8 in size, including 10% for cuts. Underneath you need about 2 tons of base gravel for a 4 inch base and 17 bags (50 lb) of bedding sand.

How it's worked out

  1. Area: 10 × 10 = 100 sq ft
  2. Pavers: 100 × 4.5 pavers per sq ft = 450, plus 10% = 495
  3. Base: 100 × 4 in ÷ 12 ÷ 27 × 1.15 for compaction = 1.42 yd³ ≈ 2 tons
  4. Sand: 100 × 1 in ÷ 12 = 8.3 cu ft = 17 bags

Herringbone and curved designs waste more, so allow 15% for those. You'll also need polymeric joint sand and edge restraint around the sides that aren't against a wall.
